09 Sep 2017 Maps of Meaning 01: Context and Background

In this lecture, I discuss the context within which the theory I am delineating through this course emerge: that of the cold war. What is belief? Why is it so important to people? Why will they fight to protect it? I propose that belief unites a culture’s expectations and desires with the actions of its people, and that the match between those two allows for cooperative action and maintains emotional stability. I suggest, further, that culture has a deep narrative structure, presenting the world as a forum for action, with characters representing the individual, the known, and the unknown — or the individual, culture and nature — or the individual, order and chaos.

May Jordan Peterson live 1000 years. A humble, articulate, extremely intelligent person. ALL of his talks are PRICELESS. God Bless

All this time I've had his book on my shelf collecting dust. Must read it immediately I can't even remember when or how I got it. Probably when I was into self development. I've crashed since and I'm trying to pick myself back up.

29:58 that picture he mentions. According to other sources the peasants in the picture were not selling the body parts. They were arrested and pictured for cannibalism.

Sometimes I envy how fortunate those people must have been, who had the chance to get educated by the great philosophers of their time, but then I realize that we are those lucky people, only 2000 years later

I had professors that would stop the entire class and lecture you if you were late. It's a small thing, but I truly appreciate the fact that students can be late in Dr. Peterson's class and he doesn't take offense.

it's an amazing lecture, where I agree with so many ideas & it's eye opener on so many levels.

the only thing i disagree with is your understanding of Judaism – we tell and retell the stories to know that there is a hope & everyone's action counts.

interesting enough, although you don't see it the same way as myself, we arrive to very similar conclusions. thank you

    "The Patriarchy in Me"

    I have this hunch…

There was a man who had a manor. On the grounds were swing sets and a tree house the patriarch had built for all of his daughters. They all were so fierce and burning with the eggs of that same fire. The bulk of his daughters preferred playing in the garden while he would build. His wife would be at the market if not making cloths for their many young daughters who would be of age to marry soon and there were many suitable families to arrange unions, to strengthen his house. He had no sons to help with his work or watch the girls as they would whisper and snicker. He had a safe space he held for his women. Just to be themselves. It was his hell to be away from them but was his heaven to be in view of them as he built for them play houses. He wished for many of the boys to come be him so each of his daughters could see how a man and boy could see. His hands were cut out for him. They would swirl and shine while the boys were in awe. Still, he held this space, for them even…to show them what he hoped would teach his possible son's what archetype any man should have for his family while in his House. This, he hoped, would assure the boys he would help them and teach them to make space for the girls so the girls would notice them building for them. He wanted son's to grow his family and strengthen his house for he cherished what this space meant for his daughters safety. He gathered the boys to ask, "What does this mean to you?" None answered. He continued to build and said, "The wonder's of being a father, a man, a stranger, a brother, a son, and ward. All in the light of a mother, a woman, a stranger, a sister, and a wife. All this and I still am perplexed how they could want for safety in themselves…for I have no desire for them to be harmed or stifled and still, I allow you to challenge me and them…in this space. I have made you wards of my House, my life, my world, my heart, and my mind. And I am a stranger to them and all of you…yet I ask you if you will help me in making them feel safe to be themselves?"

    "An Arranged Marriage"

A homeless boy spoke up and said, "A dog?" This made the patriarch smile greatly. Most men had been rather unkind to the boy so this frightened him and he started to shake. The patriarch giggled, "It's okay to be scarred little one. You have a brave heart and strong mind. This will surly strengthen my house and keep my daughters safe and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for her." He pointed to all his little ones. The boy excitedly jumped up and ran off shouting, " I'll go find one for her!!!" All the other boy's were now quite nervous but another spoke, "My family is the wealthiest around and we have a strong house we can arrange to yours." With a stern look the patriarch replied, "Yes, very good. Your father may speak business with my wife some day soon if he wishes." The father grazed over the rest to see if there were any others who wanted to invest in his house. He noticed one who hadn't taken his eye's off one of his most stubborn girls. He asked, "Aww, you think to pursue one of my daughter's, do you? Which one?" Without looking away from the girl said, "I want to marry all of your girls, but I need that one." The others eye's widened and looked to the patriarch for fear the boy angered him. With a tear on his face the father said, "For that I'll need a horse."

Matching is done thru movement mainly, from your egoic intention with the divine intention, can you figure out why movement is used, for in the void, we are all made equalt, for only there are we all the same, the sifting function that is in the gap of every birth and death of every Kosmos, save Maybe ONE……is when the god of that Kosmos may finally be complete, and in peace, and as one.

To turn this wheel of dharma, first imagine the impossible, yin energy, as the spirit is equated to mind as has been, then manifest it (yang energy, will determination, mass amnifestation, 7 days it was created within that time, but gods time is not our time), then give it away equally, IMPATIALLY , to all 6 realms of transmigration…

At about 32:00 'We have working plumbing…the absolute miracle that my life is every day…If our infrastructure did not work our lives would be harder…we don't compete for food, so we think of ourselves as good…our functional society is incomprehensible that it exists…' [Are people seriously attending, paying for, and taking notes at a lecture where a guy tells that that working plumbing is a good thing, that he considers his life a miracle, and that he personally cannot comprehend why we have a functioning society? An Antidote to Chaos, or pointless mental chaos from the first to the last minute of every lecture?]

['The context within which the theory I am delineating through this course emerge.'  [Huh?]  A 2 hour lecture on what is belief?  I can do that in 2 sentences.  If I wanted to string some cool sounding words together, with absolutely no effort to make any sense whatsoever, and with no effort to say anything useful to anyone anywhere — I wouldn't do it myself.  I would just copy from the master of pointless self absorbed junk himself; Jordan Peterson.]
