27 Mar 3 Great Ways To Use Hamburger
The starving student who lives away from home has some unique challenges that most people do not have to deal with. The budget of a university or college bound person is very limited. If I was living on my own or with roommates I would be looking for various ways to stretch my budget as far as possible.
Here are four ingredients you can purchase which will give you a significant amount of food to eat for very little money. Stretching a budget is not a difficult task provided you are able to cook.
Before you can stretch your budget you need to be able to grocery shop. Convenience and packaged foods are the most expensive foods you can purchase. Today you will learn to make $15 feed you more than it use to.
The grocery list is simple, you will need to buy one pound of carrots, one large yellow onion and one bunch of celery and three pounds of hamburger. Hamburger is displayed many different ways in grocery stores but you can probably find a 3 pound tube anywhere.
The first thing you need to do is dice the carrot thin. A good sharp knife and cutting board will do the trick. When you have cut up all the carrots put them in a bowl and move it to the side. Next you will perform the same task with the celery and add it to the bowl with the carrots. Many people do not like celery by its self but this will come out just fine. Finally you will peel and cut the whole onion into pieces and place into a separate bowl.
The food preparation is now complete. Find your largest frying pan, or pot and add vegetable oil.
When the oil has become hot add the carrots and celery first. These two vegetables will take the longest to cook so add them first. Stir the vegetables to keep them from sticking to the bottom. After they become shiny add the onions and a of pinch of salt. Saute the vegetables until they become soft then remove from heat.
Take the vegetables and let them cool in a large bowl. When they have cooled add your three eggs and your three pounds of hamburger and mix with your hands. Take the first pound and make eight hamburger patties. The reason you make eight hamburger patties is very simple, hamburger buns come in packages of eight which means you have no left overs to deal with.
The remainder of the meat mixture I add finely crushed crackers.
The next pound of hamburger you can form into four large meatballs. When I make large meatball I always use my finger to make a hole right through the center. This hole allows the meat balls to cook completely through.
The remainder of the meat mixture I will use to make meatloaf. Most University students enjoy eating macaroni and cheese. If you are that type of eater, I would recommend making a package of macaroni and cheese but under cook the pasta and mix it into your meatloaf.
These three food tips are guaranteed ways to stretch your food budget.
