I would just like to remind you that this video is kindly sponsored by Primark. Primark has recently brought out a new Back to College range. You can find their items (including the ones seen in this video) in stores; however, if you would like to read a little more about what they have brought out, you can read this blog post: https://www.primark.com/en/features/home/2017/july/back-to-college-minimalux (non affiliate link).

ALSO, this video was (if you couldn’t already tell) filmed before results day so I’m sorry that some of my comments aren’t really pertinent anymore!

I think one thing I wish I had known when starting university is to have forgiving clothes. Anything with stretch and have a drawstring and bring a belt. I know it sounds frumpy but it doesn’t have to be! There are really lovely, sophisticated clothes that can forgive extra or fewer pounds out there. Think joggers in sophisticated fabrics and clothes with stretch in flattering cuts.

When you go to university your body is going to change. First of all, it’s the age. Around 18-20 the body changes from a teenage body to a young adult body, which isn’t as drastic as puberty but it’s still a noticeable change. Some people gain weight, some people lose it and some people never change weight but regardless the body composition does change. Second, many of us change diets since we’re not in the same food environment we’ve always been in. Third, it’s a huge change. Change=stress and stress=cortisol. Cortisol holds onto fat for dear life or drops it like it’s hot depending on your genetics.

So yes, forgiving clothing is so helpful.

TOP PACKING TIPS from when I was a student that I wish I had known:
    1. A few plastic cups. DO NOT bring glass as it will break when it is inevitably dropped.
    2. A lock for your kitchen cupboard. Flat mates will go in to your cupboard use your plates and not wash them up.
    3. If you're vegan/veggie, have small a tray to put in the fridge to keep your food in and so people will know it's yours and not put bacon on top of your food.
    4. Really good ear plugs for when you want to sleep but others are still up
    5. Eye drops for those 9am lectures
    6. A mini fridge and kettle so you can make hot drinks/ instant snacks etc. without having to go in to the kitchen
    7. Anti-bacterial wipes and air freshener. Sometimes flat mates will spontaneously want to come in to your room but your room might be a right mess, so quickly wipe up and spray so it's a little bit nicer

How can you support Primark? Don't you know how they treat the people who sew the clothes? It's like supporting slavery.

Hello Ruby! I know this might be lost in the comments but I learned a lot of things in university and studying on a large campus. I'm not quite sure how large your campus will be, but definitely invest on a good bike. I had a class from one end of the campus and had a following class at the other end. It was a pain to walk and if you are unlucky you might have 15 min to get there. Luckily I had an hour duration before my class started, however I would arrive in either sweat or a parka covered in snow. A bike definitely saved me. It's also a great way to get your exercise and wonderful form of transportation.

Hi ruby. You did a ‘what’s in my school bag’ video and preached how you think it’s important that workers are not used and that they have fair standards. This is funny to me as you are working with primark, a company that uses sweatshops to create their products and has a record for exploiting their workers. Do you put your morals aside when money comes into it? What’s your stance on this? Very curious

Hey, i love your video, Ruby.
Still, I have to say that even though I understand and support you partnering with brands, I have to admit that I am somewhat disappointed that you decided to partner with Primark. I really do not want to be overly critical and one does not have to support every aspect of the brand your cooperate with, but Primark's conditions of production really are one of the worst on the marked. Yes, the products are very cheap, and I understand that this is an important factor, especially for students, but at what cost? Additionally the products are loaded with chemicals and are of poor quality. I am aware that you must know all of this and the video itself is of great use anyways, I mean you don't have to purchase their products in order to follow your tips. You can always adapt them.
Still I just wanted to point that out. I am sure you reflect a lot and are self-critical but maybe you could give my point a thought and considere it.
I love your channel and the messages you transport.

I'm on my second year of university and I need only a pen, highlighter and some notebooks. may be if it's your first year you think a lot about what you need and smth.

by the way, I'm the best in our uni group and I study really good. so don't think that I'm just lazy or something because I need just a pen haha

Congratulations Ruby! Just a couple suggestions to your list: quality ear plugs. You may not be able to control the noise in your flat but chances are you'll need them at some point. Some comfort books because they do provide emotional support when everything is different and one feels alone. Very comfortable shoes: you will walk a lot and you'll need shoes that'll keep you comfy and dry in all weather conditions. Stick on hangers: try to get your hands on quality ones that are easy to take out but they are really useful if you have an en suite bathroom or if you need more space for your items.

    Hi Ruby
I am sorry if you have been asked this millions of times before or have already done a video on it, but how do you stay so motivated to revise and study so much because your will power is admirable.
I love school as well and I enjoy learning but sometimes I find it hard to revise for a subject if I haven't been asked to for example in the summer holidays (I'm going into year 10 so I haven't been given holiday homework for all subjects yet)?
I love your videos and I am also a fan of Harry Potter!!
Good luck at university and we'll done in your exams you should be very proud!!

Personally I think the list is unrealistic when you’re at uni. I don’t think you’ll have a lot of time to still look at it and update it etc. I do however love how organised it is and have made a few lists of things I need when packing
