25 Sep Chinese students questioned about Tiananmen Sq. protest 1989

clip from PBS “The Tank Gentleman”.
Rewriting heritage.
Be aware that this (american) PBS documentary is omits the powerfull photos/online video of students erecting a massive “Statue of Liberty” replica as an outcry for support to The us and other “totally free” nations. Of training course the Reagan/Bush admin. was not going to support since they politically, economically and socially(cfr. one particular-little one policy & Bush sr.) supported the communist routine in China.

I am from China, 26 and once was asked by a western friend before, but I said at the beginning I thought it is a mass shooting and a lot of students plus some soldiers died told by my parents before I came to US. And then when I saw wikileak’s multisource confirmations as well as Li Dan who escaped (just before the incident) to US embassy (one of the student leaders who claimed no mass shooting seen by him during the night and asked western media to stop using their lies to fight against China government's lies.  I seriously doubted about the massacre and casualty which previously heard from my parent’s generation. Most of our parent’s generation knew what happened but not very concerned it anymore more, and that is exact the reason why only a few hundred students on the street on that night after government announced curfews. (But now a lot of big strike and demonstrations happen more frequently in China, more on pay rises and environmental concern.) Students in that demonstration had good visions, but what they wanted may not be realistic in other stakeholders’ points of views in the country.  Even among the students, there were also many different opinions regarding so called foreign assists.  And also a couple student leaders moralized all the students on the street to hold on till the “end” but they took US passport happily for their evacuation before the clear up which really irritated a lot of people not only the government.

I have a young Chinese friend who didn't know anything about what happened in Tiananmen Square. She only heard about it when she came to America.

This video highlights how the C.C.P. work and why they are hated. Fear. I hope for a 'Chinese spring' which with the growth of the internet in China, particularly 'Wiebo' will hopefully be a reality since the internet is very difficult to police. There are way's around the 'Great fire wall of China' 'Greatfire.org' and 'Freeweibo.org' peace.

So what's this about? A murder? Yuk! They truth lies from the beginning, if the Chinese were so ruthless and cold against their fellow people they wouldnt have given a shit about that man or stopped for a second, just crush over him, simple. But they did not! So stop telling lies to the world that this man was crushed over by the tank, bullshit!

Ye but what's the point? They didn't kill that man did they? The tanks didn't crush over the man did they? Why aren't u showing us the complete video? The man was not hurt in the end and walked away with some other people.

Because you are generalizing college kids all around the world. Like college kids don't have access to the same information you have, and even more than that and are tested on a decent level about that knowledge unlike you.
But keep telling to yourself that you are the smartest and most knowledgeable person in the world if that makes you happy, even if you haven't done anything of worth to achieve that 'status'.

Equality, brotherhood, community, socialism… all of these words are the opposite of "Chinese Communism." In fact, communism is nearly the exact opposite of Chinese communism

I know(live in China). The CCP is just too crazy about manipulating the information within its territory.

"0.5 Chinese dollar" : this is a pure invention of western propaganda. If the americans are capable to deploy fake "proofs" on saddam hussein nuclear weapons, then you can imagine they can invent all sorts of stories to fool the world.

  • Xoro L
    Posted at 10:27h, 25 September

Of course. But western propaganda is so powerful, they will continue and continue to demonize china cuz the majority of people are stupid and will believe their stories. They know how to turn true and real facts into lies and vice versa.

Start a communist party and movement. Preach equality/brotherhood and community/socialism. See what happens to you in the USA. The hippies preached communism in a peaceful way, and those students were shot by our national guard (ahem kent state university) Americans are so afraid of the word communism they put "in god we trust" everywhere to counter it. How afraid are you that you run to god? That's like the ultimate fearfulness.

This man is a shame. He stands against his own nations tank. But not the British at their controlled port, not the French at their piece of the chinese economic pie, nor the Dutch, nor the Americans, nor the invading raping Japanese. He does not deserve his country. This movement nothing more than a US backed secret service plot to turn the people against their brothers and sister and divide the country. Just like they did in Korea. Just like they failed to do in Vietnam. Divide and conque

I know it so well, they actually hire 1000000 of people to say government good on any area in the internet, including youtube, for any news, they will pretend as regular people but say something benefit to the CCP, for each posting, they get paid 0.5 Chinese dollar.

You greatly underestimate the power of a communist country's grip on media.

logically wrong, either they don't know or if they do know, they know the killing for sure. Their dad will tell them not to join any "movement" in the university….

  • Plank Hill
    Posted at 10:27h, 25 September

They might know that the protest happened, but i doubt they know hundreds of people were killed in it or even what the protest was about.

Where do you live in China? Where & when did you study modern Chinese history at school or university ?

No,I did not imply that you are stupid, what I mean is that you have to live within that environment to understand the situation, you may be in China for a long time, but you (Westerner) will not have the feeling of fear ( the government) because, if needed, you can just fly to home country, after all, China is not Iran. However, for most Chinese living in that country if there is no where to go, then, the best option is to keep quiet to be safe.

This video seems a few years ago and they are university students

my High School students are more willing (outside class) to admit they know…

however some believe the CPC propaganda

  • Nathan Hazlett
    Posted at 10:27h, 25 September

Well im a westerner and you seem to be implying we are stupid?

I have been in China (im using a VPN) long enough to understand the complexities of transparency in this country.

Individuals are honest but can't openly be so. China as a country is not.

  • Nathan Hazlett
    Posted at 10:27h, 25 September

I have got first hand experience of the Chinese education system. A large focus is on attempting to brainwash children from an early age into a combination of neo-nationalism and whitewashing of CPC history. The education system here continues to use propaganda to encourage students to believe that any critique is some sort of 'western conspiracy'

luckily this is not the 1960s, and young Chinese people are much more prone to ask questions and seek knowledge than their parents generation

I teach English in a large Middle School. Many students know full well the CPC hides this but its very difficult for them to speak openly.

  • ZhaJiangLiu
    Posted at 10:27h, 25 September

It's like asking Americans about Kent State or the Bonus Army. Information is lost with time, and many young people simply just don't care, playing CoD on their xboxes all the times.

  • ZhaJiangLiu
    Posted at 10:27h, 25 September

Probably because everyone is too busy playing on their xboxes: the government doesn't even bother to ban most proxies. Just type in proxy and pretty much all of the censorship is made to be completely useless. Considering that Japanese porn is very popular in China, despite that porn is illegal, that would mean most people know how to bypass the censors.

Some of us know, some of us do not.
Some of us know but choose to forget.
Some of us know and keep it in mind.

Just like what happen in movie The Matrix.

But, assuming they do know, I'm sure that certain people would have some questions for them if they admitted they've researched this photo. So they cannot admit it, and you would be right that they have to pretend.
