You Can Make a Difference: Choose to be a Texas Teacher
Teaching itself has been said to be a noble profession. Teachers take the young minds of the world and impart knowledge to them while creating a space where learning and inspiration can take place. Good teachers inspire students to learn while respecting cultural backgrounds, individual differences, and free thought.
Never has this notion of cultural background been more needed to be said than in Texas, a growing state with a strong cultural mix. Good quality teachers really can make a difference for the future welfare of Texas students, their communities, and the choices they will make in the future as they become adults or enter the working world.
Teachers are in great need in Texas. Or should we say good quality teachers? Some have said that there are funding issues having to do with declining tax revenues, but this is being faced everywhere. A smart strategy if you really want to teach in Texas, is to be open not only to applications in the higher paying districts such as Houston, but also the smaller paying positions in outlying districts and communities. There’s a big difference in pay between some districts, but Texas standards of living can be smaller in other regions than the metro areas.
Good teachers can inspire! With their dedication and hard work they are often unrivaled, and with their voice and excitement for what they teach they inspire and create change. All of us can remember the good teachers we had throughout our school years and our education. Unfortunately, we can recall some of the bad ones also. It was the good teachers, and the really great teachers, who bring back the most pleasant memories, the teachers who believed in us, challenged us, and treated us with respect. They challenged us to be better, to transcend our troubles, and inspired us to think and change the world. And some of us were so inspired, we did change the world!
Certainly there have been these kinds of teachers in Texas, and Texas needs you if you are a quality teacher!
The Need for Teachers
The need for teachers is never so grave. Often underpaid when compared to their fellow graduates form universities and graduate schools who went for the corporate and government jobs, teachers often put in long hours for which they receive little additional compensation. The salaries for teachers isn’t bad however, compared to a number of jobs, and the benefits and rewards of helping to shape young minds and change lives for the better is priceless.
Texas, like many states in the union, is facing the same problems that plague our Nation and challenges for the future. However, Texas has special needs and it is relatively easy to become a teacher in Texas. There are many Texas teacher training certification programs. If you already have a Bachelor’s degree from a University, or you have specialist training, have a degree in science or math, or have already taken some teacher certification licensing exams in another State, or have a degree from a foreign country, you should contact one of the training courses online.
