10 Sep Dangers of Sleeping Pills – Research on Aging

Can sleeping pills do more harm than good? Join us for this provocative and informative program exploring the new class of “improved” sleeping pills. According to recent research by Daniel Kripke, M.D., professor of psychiatry at UCSD School of Medicine, sleeping pills may increase depression and lead to a higher incidence of certain diseases. Sleeping pills may actually shorten people’s lives. Series: SIRA (Sam and Rose Stein Institute for Research on Aging) [9/2008] [Health and Medicine] [Show ID: 14203]

Melatonin gives very strange and synthetic type dreams which is very unpleasant unfortunately. It's also not advised to take a natural melatonin as it could contain a virus.

I'm weaning off Zolpidem after 21 years of use. The rebound insomnia is terrible. Two weeks in a row with little to no sleep but I'm determined to get off permanently.

"forget how poorly they sleep." I am on ambien right now and I totally agree. I end up doing crazy stuff when I am on there including eating a lot and I have never had problems with my weight but waking up with chocolate in my hair? You forget everything you did the night before unless you have some type of reminder either from another person or when you wake up and see you have moved furniture. I am getting off of it. I am not getting more sleep because it is a fun high…who wants to sleep??

i love my sleeping pills. they make me feel drunk with out being drunk its great! but they have the worst after taste and they make everything taste bitter after. and they work. for over a year i wasn't sleeping until 6 or 8 in the morning and i would get up at 6 or 7 at night. most of the time i would go to bed when it was dark and wake up when it was dark. it's nice waking up when the sun is out and i finally feel normal again after taking them. I'm not as depressed and i have more energy 🙂

how about using herbal things…like valerian root …

  • EvilKris
    Posted at 11:40h, 10 September

i have to take pills at least twice-three times a weeks. i take the sort of herbal ones, 1 or 2 depending on how 'awake' i feel on the night.
just can't goddamn sleep- even the thought of lying down and switching off is repulsive. sometimes pills are the only things that send me into a good enough state of relaxation to sleep. no side effects really.
exercise does work, but i have to do so much in order to rest well, like an hour of hard cardio or running. cant do that every day.

Diet modification, exercise, drop all that extra weight you are hauling around. No need for drugs, you're just taking the easy way out.

Modify your diet and get regular exercise, consider seeing a naturopathic Doctor, that's your best bet!

I can't even really describe how I feel in the morning, the best I could describe how I feel in the morning, is I feel like I'm wide awake, like I'm not groggy , as if I have been awake for a little bit, you just need to give it a try really, people can speculate all the want, and make false assumptions, but until they actually try it…they don't really know..

believe me I get a lot of people that say "That's stupid" and they haven't even tried it!!

    anyways, lol

if you click "More info" on my video, I have a link to an MP3, that I made from my Brainwave Generator program.

it does frustrate me that people think there's no way it can work, but believe me it works, but they are too ignorant, to EVEN TRY it, or they wont look up any info on it…

there's not ONE night I go to bed without listening to Binaural Beats, I'm not addicted to it, it just works so well, may as well listen to it.. you NEED headphones tho

  • David Smith
    Posted at 11:40h, 10 September

there's a much better way to overcome insomnia, it's called Brainwave Entrainment, you can give an audio I uploaded a listen to before bed (and no I'm not trying to sell anything) it's free, I just like sharing with people…

do a search for my video
"Need help Getting to Sleep, and having a Quality Sleep?"

maybe I will post it as a video response on here….

I listen to it every night before bed, and I fall asleep FAST, and I wake up a lot earlier than I use to, and I'm 100% rested

To rely on the pills alone is just stupid. But ultimately, they still have their place in the treatment of insomnia and sleeping disorders. Just like all medications, THEY HAVE SIDE EFFECTS. That does not mean that they suddenly lose their place as a treatment option for us desperate group of people. They don't stop cancer drugs because of the severe side effects, do they?

It is always going to be a balance between whether to treat the condition and the side-effects you MAY experience.

Usecori is exactly right. Try living a life like that for 22 years and let's see what your praying gets you then.
Pills are not the ONLY tool in the box, however, and not the only piece to the puzzle… They should be combined with light therapy and melatoinin supplementation, as well as excercise, good sleep hygiene and discipline.

Hi use I was just wondering have you ever tried prayer? I will pray for you.

I have had severe sleep disorders for 22 years. I've been through sleep disorder clinics twice. I'd like to know what the lecturer would do if he's gone 6 days with no sleep. I was hallucinating and was hospitalized. I know that with sleep meds I am a safer driver and have far more effective brain function. I agree that it is a catch 22. But I am far more likely to have a life with meds than without. This disorder has totally altered my life. I have high adrenal gland function-being eval.
