I wish I'd known this back when I started college. My grades were good but evidently not scholarship good. The one thing I did resent about the system was being asked by the financial aid officer if I was Hispanic (I know I look like I could be; very dark hair and darker skin) but I'm not. She said it was a shame because if I was I could qualify for a minority grant/scholarship. I told her, "I am a minority–I'm a woman." but somehow she didn't see it that way and neither did financial aid. I ended up having to take out school loans when I had one parent (my father passed while I was in high school) and my mother-who was a high school dropout worked two part time jobs for minimum wage. I had to end up dropping out of college my sophomore year because I couldn't see the point of continuing to rack up debt with no guarantee of a job. It took me 10 years to pay back my loans-living at home, driving a junk car and never going anywhere unless a date took me out but I did pay them back.

Hi, I'm on the president's list for over a year. Have a GPA of 4.0 and a top 40 out of 250 students. No one has reached out to me. I need my tuition paid and seeking graduate school? How do I make this work?
    Thanks!

What is a prospective applicant is very strong in math and physics and that is all he is interested in and is good at, while maintain B/B+ in most other subjects… Does this kind of student have a chance of getting a merit based full scholarship into math/physics or related program anywhere? Or do universities care only about the GPA – and no passion is required for any subject in particular?
