30 Aug Imaging the earliest Previous Planet monkey mind Duke College Exploration
The mind concealed inside the oldest recognized Previous Planet monkey cranium has been visualized for the first time. The ancient monkey, recognized as Victoriapithecus, first produced headlines in 1997 when its 15 million-12 months-aged cranium was identified on an island in Kenya’s Lake Victoria. Now, many thanks to superior-resolution X-ray imaging, scientists have peered inside its cranial cavity and established a 3-dimensional pc model of what the animal’s mind very likely seemed like. The tiny but remarkably wrinkled mind supports the concept that mind complexity can evolve prior to mind size in the primate relatives tree.
