Definitely, great content. Thanks! Having said that, the presenter is a bit disconcerting; in particular for a lecture on entrepreneurship. If you close your eyes, Altman sounds like Mark Zuckerberg. Strangely, he has the same voice cadence.

The whole lecture by Sam Altman has a huge mission and message which is to explain the difference between to have a startup and to do a startup. As the professor mentioned in the lecture, for the startup there are four useful and important components; idea, product, team and execution. During the lecture the professor gave many advice and useful things.

“Create and build something that you need, otherwise it would be very difficult” said the professor. I can make an argument about this opinion based my own experience. Indeed, I cannot really deny by 100 percents but I can oppose. For example, I am a business person who does everything related to business at Smart Green Startup. Smart Green mainly does greenhouse monitoring. Frankly speaking, I enjoy working for the Smart Green, in spite of the fact that I do not need that product because I do not have a greenhouse. It is not hard to me to deal with Smart Green and I easily speak to customers and do sales who need the product. From my point of view, this is kind of arguable because startup depends not on the needs that I have but on the personal interests and abilities that I have.

Find here my notes for this lecture.
Lecture 1: How to Start a Startup

Section 1: Ideas, Products, Teams and Execution Part I

Four areas that we must excel at to maximize our chances to have a successful startup:

    – Idea:

    – Working on a good idea is very important and we should allocate a reasonable amount of time to find one.

    – Long term thinking is a huge advantage in startups.

    – Mission-orientd ideas are the ones who gets the maximum of focus, dedication and support.

    – Great ideas tend to look terrible at the beginning.

    – When evaluating an idea we must think of the size and especially the growth of the merket, the growth strategy for the company, the defensibility strategy and not just the product.

    – Product:
    – Build a product and get it as good as possible by talking to your users, nothing else matters.

    – Build something that a small number of people love rather than a big number of people like (my favorite part :)).

    – Start with something simple.

    – Find your users of the feedback cycle by hand and make them love the product.

    – The indicator of a great product is the growth.

    – Team:

    – Execution:

Section 2: Why To Start A Startup

    – Starting a startup needs hard work, responsibility, dedication and commitment.

    – The most difficult skill to learn as a CEO is managing your own psychology.

    – Have a passion for the idea.

Please elaborate more on "solve a problem". There're different levels of solving problems: some are temporal, some are superficial, some might introduce other problems, some might even exacerbate the original problem in the long run. It seems that problems are so linked in today's world that one can hardly solve one single problem profoundly without solving those other problems.

Someone help me judge if the following idea is a great startup in my country cameroon:
People tend to forget or misplace their ID cards and after a long search for it no success they tend to redo a new one and that costs so much money in my country.my solution to this problem is to create a startup that will be incharge of walking around the zones collecting missen ID from streets or from people who had found it on the street. Then later on we resell the ID to the owner.this holds true if the owner initially during our registration stage had registered and accepted our terms and services. Please i need help, moreover i have more ideas in my mind, someneone help me to live the life i wanna

I know it sounds obvious, but damn you get so much more out of these lectures if you listen to them a couple of times — at least. Repetition helps to reinforce some of the key points and it makes it easier to actually apply their advice to my own work. The one with Kevin Hale was spectacular, and probably the lecture that most people should listen to if they struggle with UX Design.

the 100th Facebook's employee getting $200M? Math doesn't add up. According to my research, the 100th Facebook's employee (considering a 200B valuation) would get $15-40M pre-tax. and that's if you joined THE outsider + pretty early + in a senior role.

I'm not sure what's the point of skewing the numbers like that. See Aaron Levie's lesson, he briefly talks about why not to startup an (enterprise) startup, but applies to any imho and it's much, much, much better.
According to facts, there's no other way to become a billionaire from zero but to be a founder. If we consider 20-50M as being rich, that's another story tho.

Dustin's part is for sure the worst of the series.

Sam's content is on top as always tho.
