After smelling the urine of a female mouse, a male mouse starts to call to her using a complex string of utterances (depicted in the sonogram which shows frequency of sound over time). Researchers think that such songs give way to simpler tunes after the male is in the physical presence of the female. Read more:

    my female field mice got loose she's been in my room for days she just started making calls I think maybe she's looking for a mate she was raised by me but not hand held much she won't come to me and avoids every attempt to trap her safely I NEED HELP I LITERALLY haven't slept for a week. now

    I actually had a pet mouse that I could hear her vocals without the use of any audio equipment, this just sounds more amazing, I wonder if they can do Rats too, I can always hear my rats chattering and i have one rat that is very vocal herself but it would be cool to hear them with this equipment. Unfortunately in the research field I can't hear anything unless we set up matings because the animal house has too much background noise.
