in uni you are expected to figure problems yourself and is not the professors responsibility

Hi, does 1st year and 2nd year result count towards the final result on the 3rd year?

I got a 3rd from university because I had to go back home for my 3rd year due to a family tragedy and failed an exam. I wasn't allowed to retake it. I was 0.02% off a 2:2. I cannot explain how I felt. I finished in 2010 and it's only been recently where I have been able to talk about it. I had lost all my confidence in my subject and didn't even want to get a job in that area (law). I finally plucked up the courage in 2016 and became a legal secretary. It raised my confidence and made me feel so much better. I am now looking into courses to work towards legal executive status and want to start from scratch. I think having that degree as bad at it is is going to help me further myself through this course. I think you are courageous for making this video and it shows everyone struggles from time to time. Well done for highlighting points and being honest 🙂

That academic struggle especcially with a teacher/professor is real af. This happened to me in year 12 with maths so I had to repeat and move sixth forms. I know that's no where near your struggle but the extent to how mentally and emotionally crushing it is, is hard to describe.

This is very inspiring! It's such a shame that your professor treated you so horribly and would not help you. The downfall of professors is they are very knowledgeable in their subject matter; however, they are not always trained in education. Therefore they do not know how to actually teach and that's a shame. Just because one gets a Master's or Ph.D. does not qualify them to teach. Keep strong and keep up with your studies, you will succeed!

This was my experience in my A Levels college. My college is one of the most prestigious institutions in the country and a lot of students/alumni go to Russell Group unis, Cambridge, Oxford, LSE, Stanford, etc. It’s super competitive and because we were labelled as “smart” and got stellar grades in highschool, we weren’t really seen as people who had any problem in coping with the large workload (our syllabus is crammed and we had tests every week) and getting A* in every assessments we got. I dropped out recently due to stress it caused; I suddenly fell ill one week and I just decided that my well being was more important, so I took time-out. Shirley, I want to say thank you for shedding light on how it’s like to be a student at an Ivy League/top uni, and in my opinion, the culture and support system is honestly discouraging and disappointing. The officials really should take more initiative in taking care of the students’ welfare and mental health, and be more understanding in students’ limits. Well done to you Shirley, really proud of you 🙂
