29 Mar Rice engineers create fingers-on feed-back for virtual gaming

Rice University engineering learners are functioning to make virtual truth a small far more real with their creation of a glove that allows a person to come to feel what they’re touching when gaming.

The Hands Omni glove created at Rice’s Oshman Engineering Design and style Kitchen will present a way for gamers and some others to come to feel the environments they inhabit through the likes of a few-dimensional heads-ups displays.

What about hitting a wall in-game, what happens, what do you feel?

This is amazing , sadly I don't see it going mainstream , it's going to be costly , and developers hardly care about the PC anymore .. cannot see them bother with this.

All good, but new technology…. Virtuality did this at least 25 years ago!

0:46 come on. ¬¬ That was totally unnecessary. Saying that it looks like that inside the box there's some kind of scam, like a hole under the table where there is a guy who inflates the devices with his mouth.

Does this glove has to be 600$ price? I highly doubt it'd cost that much to produce… Cool product, but please don't be greedy for price once it's out. You'll attract way more people this way.

Pretty good idea. However I don't think it needs to be precise because I think about that phenomena where people sympathetically feel sensations that aren't actually there using visual ques and tricks would fill in a large majority of the sensation even if there were not bladders. I think this would be best used in scenarios in which visual ques aren't given; I.E interacting with something out of sight like reloading a virtual gun or operating a lever.

The basic concept looks ok – but inflatable air bladders to give touch-resistance? That would only give points of contact on the finger – not in any way the feeling of holding something solid, unless the entire glove can someone stiffen as well
