30 Jan Sean on his Brown academic experience
Ask students here what sets Brown apart, and you’re bound to get 6,670 different answers. That’s because no single experience defines a Brown education. Brown students want to create and navigate their own intellectual journeys. They possess an intense curiosity. They aspire to make an impact. Does this sound like you?
At most universities, students must complete a set of core courses. At Brown, we invite you to develop your own personalized course of study. You’ll sample courses in a wide range of subjects before immersing yourself in one of 80-plus academic concentrations (what you might call a major) for in-depth, focused study.
Each year, Brown offers close to 90 special seminars just for first-year students, with a maximum of 20 students each. Current favorites include Color Me Cool (A Survey of Contemporary Graphic Novels), What’s the Big Deal with Data Science?, I Don’t Even Know Why They Call It Color TV: Television and Race in America, Who Am I?, A Taste of the Infinite, Black Student Protest from Jim Crow to the Present, and Crossing the Space Chasm Through Engineering Design.
