06 Jun Sociological Imagination

This video is an introduction of C. Wright Mills concept of the sociological imagination. Understanding and being able to exercise the sociological imagination helps us understand the relationship between the individual and society. Mills focuses on the distinction of personal troubles and public issues. For example, exercising is not just a personal behavior but is vastly influenced by society. The example of obesity in the United States is used to help explain this concept. Further examination of the sociological imagination can be found on page 6 in the text Sociology 2e by OpenStax College.

The pencil drawing style presentation of videos is already out of date and boring. I guess that is why you have relatively low number of subscribers despite of the interesting content.

You might consider other type of animations for your videos.

So wait. Does sociological imagination mean the correlation between individuals and society as a whole? Like how both things affect each other or are we suppose to be placing ourselves in certain situations and imagining how everything functions? I’m so bare boned rn idk what I’m even learning.

Even you breaking down this theory to
Its simplest core is still confusing to me. I get what he’s saying but it’s way complicated.

So Si claims that we have no personal agency and biology is only a factor when it has no bearing on sexuality or biological imperative.
The double think is killing me.

we are 'biologically driven' to purchase as much as we can for $5? what a joke. if its biologically determined, why bother with a discussion about imagination?

Everything in the scenario is absolutely personal choice. If your family/friends disavows you for trying to eat healthy, they shouldn't be taken seriously. If they're somehow ignorant of the correlation between food and health then the moral thing to do is inform them so they can improve their lives. Don't blame community for your bad decisions, bring a fucking salad.
