Southampton University in UK, the biggest higher education institution in south- eastern UK, has flagged off a three year, full- time maritime law programme known as LLB Maritime. In This university, which has more than 17,000 undergraduate and 7,000 postgraduate students, has lots of maritime law experience, but till now it has benefited mainly postgraduate students.

An exposure to maritime law at the undergraduate level will improve the employability of students.
In the very first two years, the course will focus on the core LLB programme – contract, criminal and constitutional law and legal systems and reasoning in the initial year, and law of torts, land law, equity and trusts, and European Union law in the second year. In the final year of the LLB Maritime programme, the students will be asked to settle for three alternatives from a list consisting of admiralty law carriage of goods by sea, commercial conflicts of law and international litigation, and industrial sales and public international law. They will also be needed to pick an added subject from the common LLB possibilities.
Apart from taking these papers, students will be needed to write a ten,000-word dissertation on a maritime law- connected subject as element of their compulsory legal study and writing course.
