14 Sep The Benefits of Soft Water

If you grew up in a home with hard water, like I did, you may not fully get the gist of why soft water is so valuable to homeowners. In fact, I grew up in an area with some of the hardest h20 in the entire country. And it took me more than 20 years to realize what I’ve been missing. When it comes to water, seeing and feeling truly is believing. So here are just a few of the benefits of having soft water in your home.

You spend less time taking care of your skin – All those deposits in hard water don’t just end up on your dishes and glassware. They also cause havoc on your skin. Those deposits can cause wrinkles and affect your skin’s collagen. The biggest thing you’ll notice in terms of your skin is how smooth and silky it feels. That’s because your skin will be cleaner than ever.

You don’t have to worry as much about your hair – Aside from positive benefits with your skin, soft water also does wonders on your hair. Soft water leaves your hair cleaner, which means it will have more shine and more volume.

You spend less money on stuff like soap and detergent – When your water is soft, you use much less soap, shampoo and detergent in your washing machine and dishwasher. When I say much less, I mean 50% less, according to the Water Quality Association. The reason why is pretty simple. You get more suds with soft water.

Your clothes will last longer – Not only do you use less detergent, but your clothes will also last longer. Soft water helps the longevity of your clothes in terms of repeated washings. It will also help shirts retain their brightness.

You spend less time cleaning – One of the most noticeable effects of hard water is that nasty soap scum build-up on dishes and glasses. You don’t have to worry about that with soft water. You can actually use your dishwasher without worrying that all your glasses will wind up with that chalky, white residue that’s left over from hard water.

Your appliances will last longer – Finally, those big-ticket purchases, like water heaters and other kitchen appliances, love soft water. According to the Water Quality Association, hard water can cause about a 25% decrease in efficiency with gas water heaters. Limescale buildup from hard water can also cause big problems with any appliance that uses hot water.
