17 Jan The Energy Safety Research Institute at Swansea University (with subtitles)
In the final film produced for the EuChemS2018 congress, we hear from ESRI – the Energy Safety Research Institute at Swansea University.
ESRI, supported by industry sponsors, was created to research new technologies for clean energy generation, storage and conversion.
A key part of ESRI’s research is in CO2 – both sequestration and utilisation. In the UK, current CO2 emissions are approximately 500 million tonnes per year, but with a goal of 80% reduction by 2050. The main sources of CO2 are energy generation, transportation and industry.
Energy generation can be solved by alternative energy sources. In transportation; hydrogen and electricity will replace petroleum. But industry remains a different issue.
ESRI is working on a number of major projects to reduce industrial carbon emissions through chemical conversion and biological processing.
The goal of ESRI is not only to create new technology for a cleaner energy future, but to demonstrate and deploy that technology.
