13 May Tuskegee University Interdisciplinary Webinar with Prof. Ntam Open Educational Resources
Reducing Students’ Debt While Promoting Active Learning!
Open textbooks can greatly reduce or even eliminate these expenses. This is possible because due to advances in digital technologies, many costs associated with traditional publishing don’t exist with open textbooks. Moreover, saving money is just one of the advantages of open textbooks. Open textbooks can easily be updated to include the latest knowledge, and open textbooks provide the possibility to integrate interactive experiences rather than static, engaging students in active learning. Because most open textbooks are transmitted digitally, it is easy to integrate their content into learning management systems (LMS) and online courses. This can be very useful in developing quality online courses and can facilitate the process of transition to remote learning in the case of an emergency as in the COVID-19 pandemic era. Existing Open Educational Resources (OERs) can be easily remixed and used to implement virtual labs. In this webinar, we will examine one of the free open textbook authoring platforms called Libretexts. Libretexts is open (completely free), Comprehensive, interactive, current and accessible.
