08 Sep Wednesday Lunch: Dean’s Forum with Jeffrey Stackert.
Dean’s Forum with Jeffrey Stackert, Associate Professor of Bible. Prof. Stackert’s recent book, “A Prophet Like Moses: Prophecy, Law, and Israelite Religion” (Oxford University Press, 2014), analyzes the relationship between law and prophecy in the pentateuchal sources and the role of the Documentary Hypothesis for understanding Israelite religion. Professors Willemien Otten and William Schweiker will offer responses. Wednesday Lunch is a Divinity School tradition started many decades ago. At noon on Wednesdays when the quarter is in session a delicious vegetarian meal is made in the Swift Hall kitchen by our student chefs and lunch crew. Once the three-course meal has reached dessert each week there is a talk by a faculty member or student from throughout the University, a community member from the greater Chicago area, or a guest from a wider distance.
Since its founding in 1890, the University of Chicago has been a destination for rigorous inquiry and field-defining research. This transformative academic experience empowers students and scholars to challenge conventional thinking in pursuit of original ideas.
