30 May Why Should I Go to New York University?
Is it really worth it to go to NYU? Does it make a difference for your career? What are the pros and cons of being a student at New York University?
I was talking to a recruiter but want your opinion. Why should I go to New York University?
You want to live in New York as a starving student instead of a starving 20-something starting your career.
No, really. What’s a good reason to go?
You want to owe as much for your student loan debt as you would if you bought the house — but not have a place to live after college.
I want the cachet of saying I’m from New York — at least, the college.
You want to have a guaranteed position in Occupy Wall Street, and be walking distance from Wall Street!
NYU is the starting place for a lot of actors, models and directors.
You could slum it in Los Angeles for equal odds, without having to go into debt for the privileges.
I’d live somewhere that has all the first movie screenings, Broadway shows and late night TV shows.
You could spend 5K a year for 20 years for a big New York vacation to do that, and not have unbankruptable student loan debt to show for it.
NYU has an amazing student community.
They have a dorm so large that you may end up with a half hour commute to class despite living on campus.
NYU is a ticket to jobs on Wall Street, Broadway and other large firms.
My parents can rest assured that there’s no Greek row to lure me from my studies.
Yeah, because the rest of NYC exists to distract you.
The college values diversity.
Which means if you’re white and straight, you’ll pay three times as much as others unless you come from a state with four corners. Because they need at least one farm boy for diversity’s sake.
They have excellent education and social work programs.
Why go 160K into debt to get a degree that pays 30K? You’ll make just as little with 100K less debt if you go to school near home.
They have amazing opportunities to study abroad.
I thought you were paying that much to go to New York.
