Contractions (e.g. I'm, That's, I'd) are unprofessional in writing formal letters. Avoid contractions in your cover letters!

Not even god can help a person write a decent cover letter nowadays, there are too many contradictory requirements.

I have a question, which font should I use for the cover letter?
Can it be different from the font in my CV?
I found "Calibri" suitable for CV but for the cover letter, I notice other fonts might be more appealing to read.

I am just wondering how to tailor the opening paragraph when one has no previous experience in that position?

    Dear future college/university graduate,
Do not take examples from school. Why? There is a huge disconnection between shcool and the job market. I earned my degree 2 years ago and 7 years before that I finished college plus a certificate 2 years after getting my diploma. I am still not at where I want to be. I recommend talking to your friends who have decent jobs show them your cover letter and ask them if it sounds convincing. Recruiters don't read long cover letter. This is too long.
