Northwest Missouri State University is a state university in Maryville, Missouri, U.S, 90 miles (145km) north of Kansas City. It comprises colleges of arts and sciences, education and human services, and business and professional studies. The campus design was inspired by the Forest Park. Northwest Missouri State University founded in 1905 as a teachers college, it is a liberal arts college offering academic programs at both undergraduate and graduate classes, and the university offers some three dozen master ‘s degree programs and a specialist in education program. In 1993 the state legislature designated northwest the official Missouri State Arboretum. Over the past decade, Northwest has earned a national reputation as a leading practitioner of continuous quality improvement through its Culture of Quality. The purpose of this effort is to strengthen all aspects of undergraduate and graduate education. Northwest Missouri State University was the only degree granting college or university selected for a site visit as part of the prestigious Malcolm Baldrige Quality Award Program. Northwest Missouri state university is the only education institution to receive multiple Missouri Quality Awards.

Northwest Missouri State University has always been a leader in utilizing technology to enhance the educational experience. In 1987, Northwest revealed its unique electronic campus program that was designed to accelerate student learning and enrich faculty teaching and research by placing a computer terminal in every residence hall room and faculty office. In 1997, the program was upgraded and all of the faculty members received powerful laptop computers, while network machines were implemented in each residence hall room. Recently, all students staying in the residence halls were given a laptop. Many locations on campus are now connected via WiFi. The program was the first of its kind on a public college or university campus.

In 2000 Northwest Missouri State University began offering an on campus course for gifted high school students who spend their junior and senior years of high school living on the campus completing their high school courses as well as two years of college work. Financial aid is available in the form of grants, scholarships, and loans. Work study programs are also available based on need students must maintain good academies standing. Students who seek financial aid will need to fill out the Federal Student Financial aid form, available online. Northwest Missouri offers more than 150 student organizations including academic and honor societies, fraternities and sororities, sports clubs, and religious and service groups.
